Koukkurahka is small swamp and swamp lake in crossing of Kangasala, Lempäälä and Tampere borders.
If you like to visit I recommend time before deer ked (EN/FI) "season", I have never seen anywhere more deer ked than in
Koukkurahka...
Photos are both from Kangasala and from Lempäälä side of the swamp. The lake is almost completely in Lempäälä side, but
almost all nature preservation area is on Kangasala side. Since Koukkurahka is accessed via private forest roads, easiest
way to reach it is via bicycle from Kaukajärvi, Tampere (North-East) side. Alternatively one can approach by parking to
Savontie, walking to Taivalpirtti (between Iso-Riutta and Vähä-Riutta) and from there via forest paths towards North.
Forests around the nature preservation area not worth seeing, almost all forest has been clearcut. I would liked to see
area around Ruutananvuoristo before they clearcut the forest, multiple steep hills and valleys. But I missed few years...
